Memorial Day 2013

Sitka did a nice job acknowledging all of the service men that have given their lives for the sake of our freedom. It was a beautiful day. We went to the beach later and bbq'd, I even stuck my feet in the water. BBBRRRR   We saw people at sandy beach actually playing in the water. At first I thought it was a polar plunge!  Nope just people having fun. Hope you all had as nice a day as we did!

Plant Walk

Michael and I went to a class to discover all of the edible plants we have here. One was memorable because after we came home we discovered we have one of them growing in our yard. Fiddlehead. You cut just the curly top off the plant, blanch it for a few minutes, then Michael sauteed

it in some butter and garlic. Kind of tasted like asparagus/broccoli.

Petersburg May 19, 2013

So Michael and I flew via Harris Air over to Petersburg to check out their Little Norway festival. LOL  It was yesterday. But we still had fun checking out their town. They have a population of around 3000 compared to our 9000. We saw one grocery store but it was pretty big. A new library was mid construction and there was a federal building. We had lunch at a little local eatery on the street. Had halibut tacos that were delicious. There was a fish fry at their sandy beach but it was a Lion's fundraiser and we just couldn't bring ourselves to pay $30 for a piece of salmon and rock fish. LOL Had a beer and wine for $10. Stopped in Kake to drop off another Harris Air pilot that had won a free cruise on Alaska Dream Cruises. Hope Mark and Phyllis have a great time. Where else can you leave home at 10am and go see another island, and be back home at 4pm! Life is good!

Lake Eva Cabin Mother's Day 2013

Michael and I got taken to Lake Eva yesterday via Harris Air in the Beaver float plane. If you have never been in a float plane I highly recommend you add it to your bucket list. This was my first time and will not be my last. We actually came home and booked the cabin again for June 8 & 9th for our anniversary. The cabin was wonderful. Rustic but very comfortable. There is a small boat for guests to use and if you don't bring a motor like we did there are oars so you can row. The motor was nice. :) This cabin is new, it replaced an old one in 2011. It is handicap ready so it has a wonderful deck that also leads to the outhouse. There was a log book in the cabin that you can write your experience's in and it went back to 2007. Was fun to read. We added our adventure to it also. Was told that there doesn't seem to be a bear problem , of everyone that wrote in the log only one person had seen a bear.  We didn't either. Saw some poop and that was enough for me. Yes we took 2 guns with us anyway. lol Michael tried his hand at some fishing but after being unsuccessful we decided the water is still to cold and they were hiding on the bottom. Some beavers came out to play last night and they were fun to mess with. Beautiful birds were aplenty and the view spectacular.
On the way there we also tagged along past our lake to drop a customer off at the Baranof Wilderness Lodge so we got a quick tour of that. Beautiful also and the hot springs are there. Will have to put it on our bucket list. LOL
