Veteran's Day in Sitka

I am so lucky to live someplace that still takes pride in recognizing the veteran's that live in their town. They have a small parade and there is always someplace in town for a vet to get a free meal. I go to every parade that happens in Sitka. What was sad to me this day was the turnout to support the men and woman that served for their country. Banks and the post offices were closed but the kids had to go to school, as did all working adults that do not work for a bank or PO. How sad is that. Well Michael and I showed up to show our support! They don't always last very long, this one was about 5 minutes , LOL  Thank you for all those who serve or have served to protect this Country we live in.

Alaska Day in Sitka 2014

Another Alaska day in Sitka and as we enjoy all of the festivities of the day it always amazes me that we are the only town that does a celebration. We had a great parade this year and up on Castle Hill they reenact the sale of Sitka from the Russians to the US. Lots of folks dress in period costumes and it is fun to watch. The Sitka Coast Guard put on an awesome helicopter demonstration out at O'Connell Bridge that included them putting a swimmer in the water , bbrrr, and then the rescue. Very cool to watch so close. Always nice to see the town turn out for all the fun!

Trip to Utah

So I finished up with my summer job with Allen Marine and couldn't wait to go see #2 daughter in Salt Lake City. After a long day of flying and an over night in Seattle I made it to Adrian and Jessica's. Got to meet my newest grandson and the other 4. Other daughter Jenn came for a short visit with her family and we celebrated Colin's 6th bday and Adams 1st. The weather cooperated for the most part but I didn't get to wear my shorts as often as I had hoped. lol Her new house is fabulous and my mother in law digs in the basement were great. Jess got a bouncy house on Saturday for the birthday celebration and we all had a blast in that. Saw a snake going right past us and of course Scott picked it up to show the kids. I don't think I've ever seen Jessica get up on a chair so fast!  haha The snake ended up biting Scott but it was just a little Gardner snake so not poisonous, but we were glad it didn't bit one of the kids. Had a great trip and loved seeing everyone! Thank you Adrian and Jessica! Love you guys!
